Namibia: Junior Table Tennis On the Rebound

THE Namibian National Youth Table Tennis championships were held last Saturday, at the JLT Beukes Primary School, in Rehoboth.

The tournament, organised by the Namibian Table Tennis Association (NTTA), was enjoyed by over 50 juniors from Windhoek, Rehoboth and Mariental.

The Deutsche Höhere Privatschule (DHPS) of Windhoek showed their strength, when there young team of players took six out of the eight available quarter final spots in the singles event and three of the four semi-final spots in the doubles event.

Mariental's Danville Mouton clinched the boy's singles section of the championship in a tightly contested final as he defeated Danville Yannick Pape of Deutsche Höhere Privatschule (DHPS) in four sets. Dennis Schreiber also representing DHPS and Romanus Kanyanga from Mariental were both defeated semi-finalists.

In a nail-biting doubles final, DHPS's Jakob Machleidt and Dennis Schreiber came out victorious when they defeated Govany Isaacs and Danville Mouton by three sets to one.

The plate event was won by Marco Clarke of Mariental and runner-up was Hardly Farmer from M&K Gertze High School.

Antoinette van Wyk (M&K Gertze High School) took the title in the girls section when she beat Samantha Dentlinger (Dr Lemmer High School) in the final. A total of eight girls participated in the championships.
