Namibia: Young Democrats' Iipumbu Suspended

THE Congress of Democrats (CoD) has suspended its youth wing secretary general on allegations of financial maladministration.

CoD secretary general Tsudao Gurirab yesterday sent out a press release stating that Young Democrats leader Kalimbo Iipumbu was suspended after the party found that he had not been accounting for funds received from the National Youth Council.

He said it came to light after the party brought in volunteers to help update the party's financial records.

"As a result of this work, it has now come to light that the secretary general of Young Democrats, Kalimbo Iipumbu, has not accounted for funds received from the National Youth Council (NYC) for the benefit of Young Democrats," read the statement.

The party's National Executive Committee (NEC) viewed the revelations in a serious light and therefore resolved to suspend Kalimbo Iipumbu from all the activities of YD pending further investigations into this and possible other financial transactions.
