Those who live or have the misfortune of using Capitol Road in the Dopemu/Agege axis of Lagos have had to contend with an uncanny situation that have faced them for a stretch of time now as the contractor handling the drainage work on a short stretch of the road leading to the Agege Motor/Old Abeokuta road junction has decided to make it an unending one.
The contractor has remained on that stretch, which cannot be up to two kilometers, for almost two years now. The problem really is not his love for sleeping on site, but the daily trauma in which he subjects road users to.
Often times, that section of the road will be blocked in the morning, reducing it to only one lane, and causing traffic snarl. In the last one week, the portion where they are currently working on has been blocked with a huge pile of red earth, reducing the road to only one lane. At night they use their equipment to block the road and constitute threat to free-flow of traffic. Most residents now park their vehicles on the roadbecuase they cannot drive into their premises, risking their being dented, pilfered or stolen.
Although it could not be said whether the quality of work done conforms with project design, if any; it is obvious that proper finishing would be needed for the right aesthetics and functioning of the drain could be achieved.
It is not also clear whether the snail pace of work on the project has to do with the release of funds by whichever agency is responsible, but residents and users of the road would want to see the completion of that project and freeing of that stretch for easy traffic flow. Something urgent must be done before residents lose their patience.
