President Ellen Johnson is today expected to deliver a special statement to the Women of Liberia when she formally launches the radio project of the Liberia Women Media Action Committee in Monrovia.

It is not known what the statement focus on, but observers are suggesting that the president may use the time to encourage Liberian women to aim higher as their male counterparts are.

This is the first time the Liberian leader will speak directly to Liberian women who see her as role model in the pursuit for change in their situations.

Besides that, a release from the Liberia Women Media Action Committee (LIWOMAC), the radio project the president will be launching is a joint project of the Liberia Women Media Action Committee (LIWOMAC) and the Young Women Christian Women Association(YWCA) in partnership with UNIFEM and is been funded by the United Nations Democracy Fund(UNDEF).

The Liberia Women Democracy Radio as the first Women’s radio station started test broadcast on December 1, 2009 and has intermittently highlighted issues concerning women.

According to LIWOMAC release, the radio station is the second in Africa and the fourth in the world while the Democracy FM Radio operates on the assigned frequency of 91.1.
