Kigali — IF the Junior Wasps needed something to motivate them ahead of their crunch 2011 Africa Youth Championship return leg qualifier against Congo Brazzaville, they now have it.

The team has been promised hefty bonuses if they pull off a massive result against the Congolese who lifted the African title in 2007.

The vice president of the national football body (Ferwafa) Raoul Gisanura yesterday disclosed to Times Sport that every member on the team would pocket $1500 (about Rwf0.87m) if Rwanda eliminates Congo Brazzaville next weekend.

"The players will receive Rwf 0.9m each if they progress to the next round," Gisanura said.

The official added that for the first leg, each player received Rwf0.3m.

The Junior Wasps were beaten 2-0 last week in Brazzaville and now need to win by a three-goal margin to advance to the next round.

The team is under residential training at Hotel La Palisse Nyandungu.

In other selected results, Mauritius will also need to beat Zambia 2-0 to qualify, while Sudan and Uganda face a similar predicament like Rwanda to qualify.

Seven teams from the final qualifying round will join hosts Libya for the tournament proper slated to run from March 18 to April 1 next year.

In the 80s, Nigeria dominated the event winning the title four times on the trot. The Junior Flying Eagles then won the event in 2005 (Benin) before finishing runners-up to hosts Ghana in 1999 and Congo Brazzaville in 2007.

The last edition (2009) was won by Ghana under the watchful eye of Tetteh.
