Lubango — Chieftains in Lubango city, southern Huila province, were on Thursday appealed for a major involvement in awareness campaigns in the communities on the voter's registration update.
The appeal came from MP, João Marcelino Tyipinge, who was speaking at a meeting with the traditional authorities whom he called to speak to the youth about the importance of the voter's registration update.
The MP said on the occasion the youths must obtain a voter's card, so they can respond to the civic duty of electing their leaders.
On the other hand, he also recommended the chieftains to tell parents to have their registered, under the free birth registration programme.
According to him, most parents only get their children registered as they near school age, which seriously affects Angola's population statistics.
The meeting was attended by more than 500 Lubango chiefs.
The voter's registration update will go throughout the country from July 30 to September 30 this year.
