Rwanda: Mukasakindi 8th in 5000m

Kigali — CLAUDETTE Mukasakindi clocked 16 minutes, 27 seconds and 92 micro seconds to finish 8th in the women's 5000m at the on-going African Championship in Nairobi.

Kenya's Vivian Cheruiyot won the race in a time of 16:18:72 while the Ethiopian pair of Defar Meseret and Ejihu Sentayehu claimed silver and bronze respectively.

With Emmanuel Havugimana (100m), 400m pair of Jean d'Arc Uwamahoro and Timothy Bagina and 800m runner Potien Ntawuyirushintege all failing to qualify on Wednesday, Rwanda's faint hopes for a medal now lie on the shoulders of two-time Olympian Epiphanie Nyirabarame.
