Tanzania: Pilipili Celebrate Anniversary With Victory

After scooping two awards at Zanzibar Film Festivals two weeks ago, Pilipili Entertainment were in a celebratory mood.

Last weekend they held a cozy invite only party to celebrate the award and one year in the entertainment business. Though everyone was in the mood but managing director Sameer Srivastava, looked happier than the rest of the crowd. According to Sameer, Pilipili entertainment was born out of an experiment when he visited the country a couple of years ago.

He expressed his joy over winning the awards in such a short span of time and to him this meant that there were just more challenges because the audience now expects more. "Today's success is definitely tomorrow's challenge. Having won these awards means the bar has been set up high, we have to meet these standards that we have set for ourselves," he said.

In his quest to take the industry to unprecedented levels, Sameer plans to work with more actors, produce more films and series that will go beyond the borders. The party like most events in Dar es Salaam took some time get into grove, the guests who were mainly actors and stakeholders in the industry started coming in at 10pm.

Even with a late start, the place was soon buzzing with plenty of activity, booze and all other sorts of drinks flowing uncontrollably. Those present in the crowd most notably were Steven Kanumba, Vincent Kigosi, Joyce Kiria of Bongo movies, Mzee chilo. They were all in a catch up mood and for sure they hard every reason to do so.

Yvonne Cheryl aka Monalisa who won the Best Actress Award for her role in 'Black Sunday' could not hide her excitement. " Looking back then ad now, I think it can only get better," she said. Sajni Srivasta whose first effort in Tanzanian film industry won the Best Tanzanian Film was equally full of joy as she received hugs from everyone.

Apart from winning the award at first attemt, she also achieved a new feat of being the first female director in Tanzania. "I did not expect it, but I am very excited and thankful to all the people who helped make the film a hit," she said. Sajni plans is to work with as many actors as possible to produce even better films.

The arrival of baby Madaha at the party seemed to elevate the mood as she was up and about, dancing and singing. The former BSS contestant who starred in the award winning Nani has just released a new single desperado which features in her second album will be released soon.

Desperado will also feature as a soundtrack in a new film by Pilipili called 'Obsession'. Notably missing from the crowd, was BSS graduate Feisal whose career like Baby Madaha was launched by Pilipili.

Apart from the problem with time keeping and mundane choice of music, the event was quite fun thanks to the crowd and all we can hope for is bigger things for this production house.
