Uganda: 67 Athletes for Commonwealth

Uganda Olympic Committee has unveiled a 67-man team, which will be the biggest ever contingent, to represent the nation at the 19th Commonwealth Games scheduled for October 3-14 in New Delhi, India.

The team comprises of 50 male athletes and 17 female from 10 sporting disciplines. Fifteen travelling coaches were also named making the contingent of 82 people.

UOC president Roger Hans Ddungu, during the press briefing held to announce the Indian Association of Uganda's partnership with UOC to boost the team's preparations, said he was optimistic the team will deliver.

"We aren't just taking numbers to India. We are taking a team of quality athletes that will win us medals," said Ddungu at the UOC head offices in Lugogo yesterday.

Adding; "we happy to partner with the Indian Community and are certain that the new Marketing Commission will do a good job. During the Games' assembly on October 2, we shall bid to host the 2012 Commonwealth Games Association general assembly in 2012." Ddungu promised to disclose the team's cash incentives during the farewell dinner to be hosted at Kabira Country Club in September.
