Luanda — The president of Cape Verde, Pedro Pires, Thursday in Luanda expressed his trust in the Angolan presidency of the Community of Portuguese Speaking Countries (CPLP) and conditioned any intervention in Guinea-Bissau to a request from the democratically elected Government of the west African country.

Addressing the press during his stop-over in Luanda from Kampala (Uganda) where he attended the 15th summit of the Africa Union, Pedro Pires, stated that the issue of Guinea-Bissau has to be treated by CPLP, ECOWAS, AU and the UN, an intricate network of organisations.

"We are working towards an outcome to the crisis with that country's authorities", the Cape Verdean president stated, adding that Guinea-Bissau has legitimate authorities to negotiate an outcome to the crisis.

He went on saying that although it is not an easy task, CPLP must act with pragmatism, believing in local authorities, acting with caution and never deepen the crisis.

The Cape Verdean head of State stressed that no one should intervene in any country, ignoring the position of local legitimate authorities, adding that it is always necessary to discuss the legally installed government.

He said that last week's summits of the CPLP and of the Portuguese Speaking African Countries brought steps forward peace in Guinea Bissau, which he did not reveal "for obvious reasons".
