Tanzania: JKT Mbweni Reign Supreme in Netball Championship

Dar es Salaam — DEFENDING champions JKT Mbweni on Thursday continued their winning formula in the national netball championships after thrashing Uhamiaji 24-15 in a lopsided game at the TCC Chang'ombe grounds in the city.

JKT Mbweni started the day on a high note with quick and accurate passes, and there was little the Uhamiaji defence could do to give them a hard time to penetrate their shield.

The service women were more aggressive, changing tactics every other minute, a system that paid dividends to enable them slot home quick goals that saw them finishing the first quarter with a 12-4 lead.

On resumption, Uhamiaji came out in a different outfit, pinning their opponents in all department and denying JKT Mbweni a goal in the whole second quarter which ended with 12-11 goals in favour of the service women.

However, JKT Mbweni managed to reorganized themselves to score 12 goals in the last quarter, courtesy of their goal getters Mwanaidi Hassan who netted in 10 and Nelly Anyingise 14 goals respectively.

Uhamiaji's goals were slotted home by Goal Shooter Mwadowa Twarib and Kalova Kihwele, the team's Goal Attacker.

Meanwhile, Dar es Salaam's Maganga team is in danger of being relegated after failure to honour three matches in the championship. In another match, Tumbaku punished Mapinduzi Dodoma by 28-18 at the same venue yesterday.

As the teams went for half time, one could not determine who the winner will be as they were tied with 10 goals each. On resumption, Tumbaku came back different side, as they launched massive attacks that granted them the winning prestige in the last half with an 18-8 lead.

Tumbaku's attacking line up of Hadija Sultan and Glady Mgondo was outstanding, as opposed to Mapinduzi Dodoma's attacking duo of Tatu Kitura and Mariam Abdala.
