Dar Es Salaam — DEFENDING champions, JKT Mbweni and Jeshi Stars have become the first teams to sail through the quarterfinals of the First Division Clubs Championship after winning their matches at the TCC Chang'ombe grounds in the city on Friday.
JKT Mbweni listed in group A managed to romp into the quarters set for today after winning all their matches in the preliminaries.
In their road to the quarter finals, they swept aside CMTU, Mapinduzi Dodoma, Police Mbeya, Police Mwanza, Uhamiaji, Emima, Tumbaku Moro and got a walkover after Maganga failed to honour their game.
As for Jeshi Stars who are in Group B, whipped RAS Lindi, Magereza, Tamisemi Dar es Salaam, Police Dar, Police Moro, Fifa of Dar es Salaam and Filbert Bayi. Meanwhile, yesterday's matches saw Police Mwanza edging out Uhamiaji 22-19 in a well contested encounter.
The spectators who showed up to watch the encounter could not predict the winner as both teams played a no nonsense game throughout, save for a few blunders that cost the two sides. On resumption, Police Mwanza opted for unstoppable raids which gave their opponents real hard time.
Landy Nzamkunda and Jane Ichumbason were instrumental for Police Mwanza victory while Uhamiaji depended heavily on the experience of old guards Kalova Kihwele and Mwadewa Twalib.
Other matches pitted Police Mbeya who outgunned Tumbaku 25-21 while Filbert Bayi outsmarted Tamisemi by 21-13 goals.
