As the transformation of Liberia, after several wasted years blamed on war and poverty, is taking center stage with the help of the international community, Liberian themselves are seizing the moment to bath their fronts as others are bathing their backs, helping in the area of roads and bridge construction, health and sanitation operations and many other projects geared toward assisting the government with its development agenda and giving the country a better facelift.
Though there are many companies in town, one Liberian-owned entity that is making headway and is at the top as far as engaging in development-oriented operation is concerned is the Peelate Construction Company.
With offices on Center Street close to the offices of the Bureau of Immigration and Naturalization (BIN), Peelate Construction Company is in the vanguard of carrying on major road rehabilitation and construction, bridges repair and construction in parts of the country.
But how has the company, which this paper has gathered is regarded as one of the best construction companies Liberia can boost of, came to being was the question put to the management in a chart Wednesday.
According to the management, besides its involvement in mainstream construction, the company is involved in sanitation work, assisting the Liberian government with the provision of tractors and dump trucks to carry out most of its work in the city and its environment.
More than assisting the Liberian government with sanitation providing trucks, Peelate is also in the business of assisting with the parching of pot holes in the city and other parts of the country.
Presently, the management said the company is involved in the construction and rehabilitation of the Belle Yallah Road in Gbarpolu County which has been damaged due to heavy down pour of rain.
The company has succeeded in rehabilitating the damaged River Gallo Bridge in Belekpalamu and has completed road compacted to cross fall at Wiema on the Belle Yallah road.
Several citizens of Gbarpolu sometimes ago decried the deplorability of the road just few months after it constructed by the Liberian government through rural roads connectivity program, and it was reported that the road was near impassable, and that citizens traveling to and fro were spending days before getting to their localities.
But latest reports emanating from the area speak of the stabilization of the situation and that road is now in good condition due to the work being done by the Peelate Construction Co.
Peelate began construction work on the road last year having won the bid put out by the Government of Liberia thru the Ministry of Public Works sometimes ago for the rehabilitation of the road, which includes recapping of damaged bridges.
Peelate Construction which is managed by Mr. Praise Tony Lawal, a seasoned and experienced engineer as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) says it is looking forward to a more good working and cordial relationship with the government and ordinary Liberians, and promised to go beyond where it is.
More besides, the company said it has the manpower and trained workforce, competent engineers who are performing to expectations and set standards, and that it has all of the equipment needed to do the work.
With almost all of the roads in the country in deplorable state, and with the need for the government to speed up rehabilitation works, observers say a company like Peelate Construction would better perform to expectation if given the chance to work on some of the roads such as the Harper road as it is doing in Gbapolu on the Belle Yalleh road.
