Pretoria — The South African National under 23-team, Amaglug-glug, will this afternoon play against neighbouring Botswana in preparations for the 2011 All Africa Games and the 2012 Olympics.
The 2011 All Africa Games will be staged in Maputo, Mozambique while the 2012 Olympics are scheduled to take place in London.
Head Coach Ephraim "Shakes" Mashaba said it's very important for his players to get used to one another's way of playing and to build one team.
"This is the beginning of a road map that we call 'Road to London'. We will have more camps like these going forward as we prepare for the All Africa Games next year and of course the Olympics the year in 2012.
"We refer to this gathering as a mini-camp because it is not a full blown camp where we assess players physically and tactically," he said, adding that his technical team is working on a succession plan.
"We have tried to get many of the players who participated in the 2009 Under 20 FIFA World Cup in Egypt last year.
"This is part of our succession plan to address the issue of continuity in our national teams, but that does not mean that they are guaranteed a place in the team, everybody has to work hard and fight for their places. Also, our doors are not closed to other players who can add value to the team," he said.
The players are goal keepers Darren Keet (Bidvest Wits), Thela Ngobeni (Kaizer Chiefs), Boalefa Pule (North West University), defenders Sibusiso Mxoyana (Orlando Pirates), Goldwin Shitolo (Jomo Cosmos), Thulani Hlatshwayo (Ajax Cape Town, Michael Morton (Orlando Pirates), Sici Shelembe (Witbank Spurs), Karabo Masehela (Supersport United).
Midfielders Luvuyolwethu Mpeta North West University), Mduduzi Nyanda (Orlando Pirates), Thulani Serero (Ajax Cape Town), Sameehg Doutjie (Ajax Cape Town), Bongani Theletsane, Siphiwe Zulu (Dundee Experience) (Jomo Cosmos) and Thabiso Mofokeng (KB Stars).
Strikers, George Maluleke (Ajax Cape Town), Thabo Moleko (Supersport United), Thulani Ngcepe (Supersport United) and Dino Ndlovu (Mamelodi Sundowns).
Amaglug-glug players, who left the country for Botswana on Friday, are expected back on Monday.
