Abuja — A member of the House of Representatives, representing Awe/Doma/Keana Federal Constituency of Nasarawa State, Hon. Dr. Shuaibu Hashimu Abdullahi, has donated N6 million to 520 indigent students of his constituency as scholarship.
This is the sixth edition of the scholarship scheme since he assumed office in 2003 as a lawmaker.
The gesture, according to the lawmaker, was his contribution to the growth of education in the three local government areas that make up his constituency.
Beneficiaries of the gesture were students studying in universities, polytechnics and colleges of education, as well as those in schools of nursing.
Hon. Abdullahi urged the beneficiaries to take their studies seriously in order to actualise their dreams of becoming future leaders, noting that the task of educating the youths was a very demanding one and that government alone could no longer cope.
"We cannot afford to toy with your future in terms of education, training and behavior if we want our society, economy and country to prosper because you are the leaders of tomorrow. This should be our collective concern", he said.
He called on private organisations, Non- Governmental Organisations and wealthy individuals to partner with the Nasarawa State Governor, Aliyu Akwe Doma, for the overall growth of the education sector.
The lawmaker stated that Nasarawa State was already on the right track, as education was part of the 13-point agenda of the incumbent governor.
