Kampala — Fire has destroyed the edible oil refinery at the Bidco factory in Jinja town. Hundreds of workers had to be evacuated from the factory.
No casualties were reported although equipment worth billions was damaged. The south-eastern regional Police spokesperson, Samson Lubega, said the fire-fighting department successfully extinguished the fire before it spread to other parts of the complex.
He revealed that the fire was triggered by an electric short circuit at the power control panel.
