Gambia: More Robbery Suspects Arrested

Twelve foreign nationals; namely Buba Camara, Ebrima Sowe, Musa Jallow and Mahammed Jallow, all nationals of Guinea; Ebrima Keita, Mahamed Jan Barry, Cheron Alieu Mballow, Sir Kunding, Omar Jallow and Ebrima Jallow all Bissau Guineans; and Matarr Jallow and Abdoulie Bah, Senegalese, have been arrested by police in different parts of the Greater Banjul Area in connection with the recent robbery incident reported in Nuimi.

The suspects are currently under police custody for further investigation.Confirming the arrest to journalists yesterday at the Kairaba Police Station, the deputy commissioner of Police, Momodou Sowe, who is in charge of Kanifing Division said sometime ago, his colleague officers in the North Bank Region embarked on a massive operation to track down criminals in the area. They learnt about the suspected robbers but they later realised that the suspected robbers had already ran to the Greater Banjul Area and are harbored by certain unscrupulous individuals within the Kanifing Municipality. "That was the time when I ordered a task force to raid all of them and make sure that they are apprehended and brought to book," he said.

The deputy commissioner further stated that some of the suspects were in Manjai Kunda area, others were around Bakoteh and others within the Tallanding area and they were all hosted by two Gambians. "As a good citizen or even a non-citizen, the integrity and the security of a country or place should be ensured. One should not harbour a suspected criminal. A good citizen should not connive with a bad element whose intention is to destroy the integrity and security of the country.In a similar but different case, two young men; namely Musa Jallow and Abdoulie Mboge, all residents of Latrikunda German, were arrested for stealing.

According to Superintendent Sulayman Secka, the police public relations officer, sometime in the month of May this year, a report was received that Omar Bun Hatab Islamic School, along Kairaba Avenue was broken into and valuable items were stolen including three computer sets, three loud speakers, printer, transformer and other valuable items.According to PRO Secka, a task force was set up in Serrekunda to patrol the night from 19:00 hrs to 08:00 hrs in the different parts of the area.

He added that in July, another shop breaking happened in SereKunda Market by unknown persons and the police were informed.The task force team according to him raided the area and two suspects were arrested at the same place in Latrikunda German. He said the suspects led the police officers to different places in SereKunda and Banjul, where they sold the materials.
