Melanky Farmer, of the Eliminators Club, collected the top honours at the recent table tennis nationals held at the Sport Klub Windhoek (SKW) grounds.
Farmer defeated compatriot Reinhardt Stanley in a singles final that could have gone either way but Farmer took the decisive final set for the victory. Stanley had beaten Reinholt Schurz of SKW in the semi-finals while Farmer eliminated Wulf Pinsenschaum (SKW) to secure a final berth. Unfortunately, triple and defending champion Theo Beukes was unable to defend his title as he did not take part in the championship, which paved the way for the new champion.
The men's doubles encounter went to the Farmer brothers, Melanky and Elzeeno, when they convincingly defeated Reinholt Schurz and Bastian Huuster (SKW) to take the title. Christa Mrozek and Wulf Pinsenschaum (SKW) collected the bronze medal. Heiko Fleidl (SKW) won the men's plate division with Quinton Bochert (Eliminators Club) as runner-up.
The Windhoek Championships will be held at the end of the year and it will be hosted by the Eliminators Club in Khomasdal.
