Namibia: Regional and Local Election Dates Announced

The Regional Council and Local Authority elections will take place simultaneously this year - on November 26 and 27.

The Electoral Commission of Namibia (ECN) announced on Friday that supplementary registration for these upcoming elections would take place from August 23 to September 6.

This is to enable eligible Namibians who have turned 18 years old since the last elections, as well as those who have moved to other constituencies or local authority areas or lost their voters' cards, to register.

It was also announced that the nomination of candidates and the submission of party lists would take place between October 1 and 18. Nominations for independent candidates can only be done on October 16.

In a press release, the ECN further stated: "The training of regional co-ordinators, assistant co-ordinators and constituency supervisors will take place from August 2 to 9, while the training for the about 3 500 registration officials will take place from August 11 to 18 in various constituencies across the country."
