Kenya: New Constitution to Boost Economic Ties With U.S.

Nairobi — More American investors are eager to set up businesses in Kenya, following endorsement of the new constitution.

US ambassador, Michael Ranneberger, says American resources flowing from the federal government, private individuals, NGO's and remittances from Kenyans in the US, are expected to exceed the $3 billion earned annually, after the country voted to enact new laws.

Her said endorsement of the new constitution marked the dawn of renewed economic ties between the two countries.

The envoy added that his government will seek to expand the partnership by committing more resources, since the enactment of the new constitution will lead to creation of institutions that will promote good governance.

The ambassador, who was speaking at Njuthine Primary School in Imenti Central while inaugurating projects supported by Presbyterian Christians from US, said there are already positive indications that the gravy train is about to start rolling out to Kenya.

The envoy who was hosted by the area MP, Gitobu Imanyara, said areas to benefit from the assistance include security and health.

Mr Imanyara praised the US for its committed support to the country, especially in expanding democracy and respect for human rights.
