Chad: National Day

press release

On behalf of President Obama and the people of the United States, I congratulate the people of Chad on the 50th anniversary of your National Day this August 11.

The United States and Chad have made great progress in recent years to strengthen our partnership. Our cooperation on political issues and improving the security and stability in sub-Saharan Africa has shown Chad to be an engaged partner and a central figure in the region. Chad's hospitality to refugees and leadership on environmental issues such as deforestation and desertification is a testament to your ability to address global challenges. The United States will continue to work closely with Chad to promote development and prosperity in the region and across African.

I wish all Chadians a safe and joyous National Day celebration and look forward to continuing our partnership as we work to secure a more peaceful and prosperous future for us all.
