Abuja — The associated controversies surrounding the plausibility or otherwise of constructing the controversial Kafi Zakin Dam, have presented Senator Ahmad Ibrahim Lawan (ANPP, Yobe), with a certain herculean task. He said his people have lost sleep and of course, are living on the fears that the dam may be constructed. Uchenna Awom in this analysis examines the reasons behind the objections to the construction of the dam.

There are very poignant reasons for tension to brew in the downstream communities of Yobe, Jigawa, Borno and other states; whose communities inhabit the riverine areas of Rivers Hadejia and Jama'are, by mere mention of intentions to complete the construction of the controversial Kafin Zaki Dam. It is even more worrisome to the people, when certain pronouncements are made by top officers of the Federal Government to the fact that the dam would be completed within the life span of this government.
