The turbulent political situation in Nigeria has had a huge negative impact on the development of science and its attendant initiatives in the country, the Nigerian Academy of Science (NAS) says but adds that there are reasons to be hopeful.
Although the academy has, over time, recounted how science is often relegated to the back seat when issues of national importance are discussed, it believes the current government, led by Jonathan Goodluck, a scientist by training, could do well to place science on top of the country's priority list.
