Namibia: Inflation See-Sawed in July

Windhoek — Annual monthly inflation for July came in at 4,6 percent, while the monthly inflation rate was estimated at 1,2 percent from 0,1 percent the previous month.

The increase is due to the increases in all groups, except for furnishing, household equipment and routine maintenance that recorded decreases of 0,1 percent.

The All Items Index for July increased by 2 percentage points, up from 172.0 in June 2010 to 174.0.

The index for food and non-alcoholic beverages for July 2010 increased to 199.4, a monthly increase of 2 percentage points from 197.4 recorded in June.

This increase was due to increases recorded in the subgroups of vegetables, including potatoes and other tubers, at 13.6 percent, food at 1.1 percent, and milk, cheese, mineral waters, soft drinks and juices at 0.5 percent.

Meat and non-alcoholic beverages increased 0.2 percent each.

The 4.6 percent annual inflation rate for July is compared to 7.5 percent recorded during the same period last year.

The annual inflation rate for food and non-alcoholic beverages is 3.9 percent, housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels 6.5 percent, while transport increased by 5 percent.
