Public Works Minister Samuel Kofi Woods has pleaded with local road construction firms to expose anyone at the Ministry that ask them for bribe or any form of inducement in other to win contracts from the infrastructure ministry.

Minister Woods said the Ministry, under his administration, will not tolerate any for of corruption or malpractices, and that anyone caught in the act will be instantly booted out.

He said all bidding processes aimed at awarding contracts for the rehabilitation of the country infrastructure will remain open and transparent.

"Please expose them. Expose any staff or Minister of the Public Works Ministry, including myself, who ask you for "small thing" or anything to award you contract," Minister Woods noted Tuesday at the close of a two-week training that provided local contractors with knowledge and skills in the adequate and timely formulation of bid documents.

"I am a Liberian, I grew up here and I have worked in several areas in this country. So I know all, I am not a stranger to these kinds of things when people ask you for cold water or small thing to process your documents, and if you refuse to comply to their demands they deliberately delay your process," the Minister explained, evoking huge laughter and applauses.

"I know all these things, but we will not tolerate such unwholesome practices at the Ministry of Public Works, and if anyone asks for anything outside the process, report them to me and I will take the appropriate action," Minister Woods told the trainees before he certificated them.

The Ministry of Public Works provided the training for the 15 engineers and managers in feeder roads construction, under the Liberian -Swedish Feeder Roads Project (LSFRP).

The training was geared towards educating already pre-qualified local contractors on the methodologies and processes involved in the standard and complete preparation of bid documents.

It was further meant to equip local contractors in competing for high-valued contracts that they otherwise could not have contested for under past circumstances.
