Liberia: Awful Defense-CDC's Justification Of Weah's Nude Exhibits Speaks Volumes

AllAfrica aggregates reports from Africa's news media. This is an article from the Liberian press. It is not a report by AllAfrica.

There is a parable which is common in most Liberian vernaculars. Paraphrased, it amounts to this: the frightening sound that a farmer hears when he first goes to identify a spot for cultivation is something that might wreck and forestall good harvest when the produce is ripe". This wise saying tickles the mind about the potentially electable next ruling party, the Congress for Democratic Change (CDC), particularly over its recent defense that justifying the near porn exhibition carried out by the party's leader, George M. Weah, when he drilled in his "birthday suit" in live advertisement spree for Roberts Noir, a kind of perfume. Many observers say the latest rationalization of "CDC evil" by its stalwarts presages unpleasant political era under the country's most populous opposition party for which the nation must beware. The Analyst accesses the denial and spontaneous public reaction.

"If the Congress for Democratic Change through its vocal spokesperson Acarious Gray can justify George Weah's butt naked video on the international information highway on some constitutional right, then Liberians' must be prepared, God forbade, under a CDC rule, to give audience to the legality and normalness of murder and even cannibalism," said Joshua Duncan Freedom, Principal of the King Pentecostal High School on the Bushrod Island.

Various bitter reactions have come from a plethora of Liberians since the local newspapers began lifting news of the advertisement video in which the political leader of the Congress for Democratic Change paraded in complete nakedness before hotel guests reportedly selling a brand of cosmetics called Roberts Noir.

A spokesperson of the Party told a local newspaper that the "disgraceful video" does not violate the laws and Constitution and that it represents some of his boss's features that his followers.

CDC Acting Secretary General Acarious Gray told the New Democrat Wednesday that he personally has never seen the promotional video but its publication will only help to make Mr. Weah popular amongst voters, especially women voters. "Only constitution deviants should not be elected", he said, adding that "Mr. Weah committed no crime by posing butte naked".

Critics say they receive the advertisement video of this very important national figure and the response of the party with utter disgust and disappointment.

While others enter the debate over George Weah's nude video with political insinuations, there are some who are considering the situation from the moral perspective, which they say no amount of justification and rationalization can acquit.

Student leader K. Seatua James, Jr. asserts: "First of all, the kind of justification proffered by the CDC confirms that the video is not faked as non-officials of the CDC contend; and we need second guess the question that this situation raises a serious moral question in the face of someone--and a party--claiming probity and uprightness, not to mention espousal to national leadership."

Seatua says though the CDC has long defended unsightly happenings in which its partisans are involved, often in contrast to moral norms and national laws, even in gross betrayal of public opinion, the party has fatally drifted with its justification of George Weah's  butt naked video.

It can be recalled when CDC's highest public official, Deputy Speaker Mulbah, allegedly ordered the flogging of a low rank police officer, the party spokespersons ganged up against critics who condemned Mulbah and demanded his prosecution.

The CDC's position at the time, according to some commentators, grossly contracted its professed pro-people advocacy since the brutalized officer, a commoner, had fallen victim to official abuse inflicted by the party's top executive.

"Gradually, we have begun to see the true color of this party which parades with populist and virtuous colorations," Pastor Moses Mentee Joe of the Christ Ordained Restoration Ministries said in an interview.

"Even assuming that Weah had performed in the nude advertisement before his bid for national political leadership was hatched, one thing is a fact: he carries the trait of waywardness which is ingrained in him. And, we need not forget the possibility that, with such an apparently ingrained near porn attitude in him, his leadership could turn Liberia into a Sodom and Gomorrah," Pastor Joe said.

"Certainly, the gentleman was not that poor at the time of his video to the extent that he would choose to reduce himself to such a distasteful drift. I think he's by nature what he does in the video: thirsty for odd acts," he snapped. "Has Weah undergone any form of moral transformation, if not baptism, to convince the people of this country that he's repented and a new creature?"

Others observers say they have got particular problem with CDC spokespersons mode of justification and reaction to damaging developments calling into question the party and/or its officials.

Student Seatua, earlier quoted, said further: "Liberians, during the dark days of this country, had known these kinds of explanations and rationalizations. When dastardly murders took place and beheaded bodies of citizens were discovered with official signatures written on the stories, government's interpretations were just un-substantive and baffling."

As we move towards Elections, Seatua says, there might be many skeletons that might come out the closets, and particularly the CDC which is populist party would have several of its partisans facing the public tribunal for acts of commission or omission.

The Party's spokesperson must therefore exercise maturity to address the issues as substantively as possible, he said, instead of shoving the facts under ambiguity and superfluity.

Where it is necessary to tender an apology, like in the case about Weah's nude video ad in foreign land, Seatua contends, the CDC must tender an earnest apology and move forward.

Pundits argue that citing Constitution to acquit Weah in his nude video saga does not lay the issue of the act's moral implication to rest.

In the West World, sexual immorality is finding expression in advocacy to illicit sexual practices such as gay marriages, against others, with the proponents citing the right to choice.

"Should Liberians rest assured that under a CDC political leadership, Liberians will be free to perform in nudity as Weah as done in the video and the likes of Acarious Gray will be providing advocacy and encouragement for the society to endorse such practices?" businessman Samuel T. Kingston said after reading the story and CDC's reaction yesterday.

"Would pornographic and other illicit behaviors become the order of the day when CDC is elected to national leadership?" he asked further, saying. "I am having this feeling because Weah's naked video, coupled with his party's support under the guise of constitutionalism brings to the fore what situation would be like under a CDC leadership."

So is Mr.Weah trying to be a Porn Star? In the Play Girl Magaine or what? One thing I do Know, he is not going to insult us to our face with such an ilresponsible attitude. A man who wants to be a leader, must live by example. You have just lost you credibility with many of your supporters and it's over for you.

A man should not be judge by his mistakes he makes but his progresses that he achieves. That's why america today is so great. President Obama and Clinton smoked weed but they are now written down as some of the best presidents america has had. George Weah is a leader from birth as he was able to rise above his poverty stricken country and placed the recognition of liberian talents on the international scene as Barack did out of kenya. George was able to give back when liberians was mislodge in refugee camps. Have we forgotten? I say to the critics that "the ends justify the means" watch out for 2011. Learn from Hilary and Barack competition labeled election. It's time for the underdogs. George has a movement not a political party so if y'all don't know by now it's too late to stop him with search cheap PROPAGANDA.......

If the Cdc thinks this is not a problem , let them read the United Nations report on Liberia. Secretary-General Ben Ki-Moon cited rape as one of the major destabilizing factor that threatens the peace in LIberia. Is this the only man the Cdc has to stand for the coming elelction ? Well Cdc may not get my vote his time.

One may ask faithless Sirleaf: Should the natives be revolted by THAT thought - the thought of nakedness? Is it a material issue by which to gauge one's potential as a leader? No.

Of course, my dear cunning propagandist, you know that THAT thought doesn't bother the foreigners - especially those in USA known to elect senators who may have posed nude ...

    . . . . .

In case Sirleaf and her foreign operatives push the issue of Weah's, eh, physique as a campaign issue, then Liberians may wish to see her nude pictures too - for comparative/analytical purposes.

    Perish the thought. Maybe not.
