A group of Liberian professionals based in different parts of the United States of America have lauded the Ellen –led Administration for the level of development that the country has undergone.
Speaking at a press briefing held at the Unity Party Headquarters on Broad Street, August 13, 2010, Mr. Zayzay Slong, head of delegation, told reporters that he and his entourage were overwhelmed by the level of positive transformation that the nation has undergone under the Ellen –led regime.
He said since their arrival into the country, they have seen a lot of developmental activities that have transpired under president Sirleaf’s Administration. He named some of the positive things that have occurred in the country as road construction, the waiver of the country’s 4.8 billion dollars debt, the building of hospitals and the training of nurses.
He said the delegation was on an assessment tour and that they have so far visited six counties including Bomi, Bong, Nimba, Margibi, Bassa and Grand Cape Mount County. Narrating further, Mr. Slong disclosed that a comprehensive report of the assessment done in those counties and other areas will be discussed with other members in the United States upon their return and the necessary steps will be taken thereafter. He said they decided to pay a courtesy call on the UP- led Administration because of the great improvements taking place under Madam Sirleaf’s administration.
The head of the twelve man delegation who is in the country on an assessment tour, Mr. Zayzay Slong, averred that they were particularly impressed with the strength and fortitude in which Madam Sirleaf and her Administration fought in having the international community convinced to waive the country’s debt, something he said was never an easy task and that it took the great courage and tenacity of the Liberian leader to have the nation to where it is.
“Sometimes people thing that it is easy to waive such a huge debt for a nation coming out years of devastation. But I must let you know that president Sirleaf and her entire administration is working very hard and that we are very encouraged by their performance. For example, if you were to divide the amount waived by each Liberian citizen you will realize that to pay that money would have taken us up to twelve years which I think the president did extremely well to avoid” he said.
Mr. Sulunteh also expressed delight over the manner in which security condition in the country has reached and said the country was making great progress. He revealed that the delegation is comprised of individuals who are from diverse disciplines and backgrounds including professors, engineers, specialists and other professionals, and disclosed that they have come to do an assessment to see how best they too can contribute towards the rebuilding of the nation. He said the delegation as part of its assessment, will also be visiting other political parties in the country.
Earlier, receiving the delegation on behalf of the ruling Unity Party, Jeremiah Sulunteh who is also Vice Chairman for Administration of the Unity Party, welcomed the delegation and described their visit as timely, and said further that they are a group of professionals who have interest in the rebuilding of their nation.
