Nigeria: Agency to Inaugurate Committee on Oil Pollution in Delta

The National Oil Spill Detection and Response Agency (NOSDRA) said it will formally inaugurate a committee on environmental sensitisation and awareness on August 25, 2010. This is part of the growing efforts to check oil spillage in oil-producing communities of the Niger Delta and a fallout of a meeting between the Minister of Environment, John Odey, and representatives of the oil and gas industry in Nigeria.

A statement by NOSDRA Head of Public Affairs, Henshaw Ogubike, noted that as the secretariat of the environmental clean-up and remediation sub Committee in the Niger Delta region, all the oil and gas companies have decided to key into the activities of NOSDRA whose approach to its statutory duties have earned it the confidence of the oil companies operating in Nigeria.
