Uganda: Local Teams Fail to Impress in Burundi

It might be a result earned at the Fiba Zone V Club Championships in Bujumbura, Burundi but Miracle Eagles will want to feel that it counts when they return home this weekend. On Thursday, Miracle nicked MTN-Fuba League champions Kyambogo Warriors 59-56 for their second victory of the annual regional tournament. Chasing a maiden play-off appearance, Miracle, who signed star Stephen Omony earlier just over a month ago, will be boosted by the result.

"The important thing is to get the team playing for one another. In such a scenario, you can easily execute," Brian Rugyendo, the Miracle coach, said. He had hoped to use the Zone V event to induct Omony into the new team. Though it wasn't enough for the Rubaga-based to advance from pool A, Warriors' inquest will start in earnest as last year's finalists failed to win a game in four attempts.

By press time, the two Ugandan sides were left fighting for ninth place as the event ends today. KCC Leopards and UCU Lady Canons were also fighting for seventh place in the women's competition. It wasn't any better for UCU Canons as their adventure ended with a 56-66 loss to Tanzania's Donbosco.
