Rwanda: Lt. Col Rugigana is Not Missing - RDF

Kigali — The Rwanda Defence Forces (RDF), yesterday, denied media allegations that the Commanding Officer of the Engineering Regiment, Lt. Col. Rugigana Ngabo, had disappeared, accusing the family of peddling false rumours.

According to the army spokesperson, Lt. Col Jill Rutaremara, Rugigana was arrested on Friday and is currently under the custody of the Military Police in Kanombe.

"The family members are only trying to sound an alarm to the outside world with the hope that this could exert pressure on the RDF," Rutaremara said.

Rugigana's wife had told the BBC that she did not know where her husband was being held and feared for his life.

"The fact that the investigating authorities refused Rugigana's wife to meet him doesn't at all mean that he has disappeared. Time will come when Rugigana will be produced before court."

According to Rutaremara, Rugigana is suspected of being involved in activities related to insecurity.
