Zambia: Contractor Disappoints Lungu

LUNDAZI Central Member of Parliament Mkhondo Lungu has expressed disappointment at the quality of work done by Gabman Construction Limited at Umi Basic School.

Mr Lungu said at the weekend that he was also disappointed with the construction company for abandoning the construction works at the school.

"I am surprised and saddened by Gabman Construction Limited for abandoning the construction of Umi Basic School.

"The contractor abandoned the works without giving any reasons," he said.

Mr Lungu, who is Home Affairs Minister, said abandoning the project was a criminal offence and the contractor should be prosecuted once found.

His displeasure was echoed by Lundazi District Commissioner, Alexander Miti who said the same contractor had abandoned the construction of Kapekesa Basic School.

Mr Miti said it was sad that some local contractors were behaving irresponsibly.

He said some local companies were embarrassing the Government and setting a bad example in the construction industry.

And Mr Lungu said his constituency had received a lot of support from Government in infrastructure development.

He said roads, clinics, schools and health posts had been built, and that a big hospital on the Chipata-Lundazi Road was underway.

The new hospital would be built at Chituta area, and the first phase would start soon.

Mr Lungu appealed to the people in the constituency to support the MMD Government to foster development.
