Nigeria: We Didn't Endorse Uduaghan - PDP Chieftain

Ughelli — Against recent media reports, the National Co-ordinator, Southern Mandate, and a chieftain of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Ogor ward, Ughelli North Local Government Area, Delta State, Prince Alex Oyoro, has said that the party in the ward did not endorse the state Governor, Dr Emmanuel Uduaghan, as its governorship candidate in the forthcoming governorship election.

Denying media reports credited to Chief J. Oduma, that Ogor PDP had endorsed Governor Uduaghan for a second term, Oyoro said, "At no time at the meeting of elders and leaders of the party in Ogor did the people endorse Governor Uduaghan."

Further he said, "it is true that a meeting of elders and leaders of PDP Ogor ward was held at Ese Otoroba Ughelli residence in July 2010, but at no time did the elders and leaders of PDP Ogor ward endorsed Governor Uduaghan.

In fact when someone wanted to intimidate the gathering with Uduaghan second term bid, he was stoutly challenged and the matter was laid to rest. So it is shocking to read that Ogor PDP endorsed Uduaghan, which is a lie.

"Ogor people are republicans with aristocratic background. They are very industrious, intelligent and self asserting as such can not be railroad into a project designed by one man or a selective self seeking group in the name of Ogor PDP. It is a well known fact that majority of Ogor PDP members are totally in support of Chief Ovie Omo-Agege candidature as Governor of Delta in 2011, yet they have not committed the whole Ogor PDP into their fold through intimidation but by persuasion and manifestos.

"Governor Uduaghan has not developed anywhere in Ogor Kingdom and even Delta State in the past three years with over N600billion that the state has received under him as Governor, to deserve the support of the people of Ogor and Delta State," he said.

Further he said, "as much as every PDP member has a right to support the candidate of his choice in the forthcoming PDP primaries, it is only proper and responsible for such persons not to commit, cajole, nor intimidate other members of the party into accepting their candidate without recourse, as much as the people are free to canvass for the candidate of their choice, caution should be exercised when it come to using the collective name of Ogor PDP as it might trigger off unrest," he said.
