Luanda — The vice president of Angola, Fernando da Piedade Dias dos Santos is awaited in Bujumbura, Burundi, where he will attend the swear-in ceremony of Pierre Nkurunzinza as the president after his re-election last June.
Fernando da Piedade Dias dos Santos, who will arrive at the international airport of Bujumbura on Thursday, will represent at the event the president of Angola, José Eduardo dos Santos.
Although there is still no Angolan diplomatic representation in Bujumbura, the journey of Angolan vice-president is awaited with anticipation by members of government and diplomatic corps.
The anxiety is justified by the active role that Angola has played in the regional and international forums to promote pacification of the great lakes region in which Burundi is inserted.
Angop learnt in the Burundian capital that several other guests are also expected to attend the installation ceremony of Pierre Nkurunzinza for the second five-year mandate.
