Ghana: Ofosu Ampofo Fires NPP MPs

The Eastern Regional Minister Hon. Samuel Ofosu Ampofo has taken a swift attack on the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) Members of Parliament (MPs) by describing them as a bunch of individuals who only think about their parochial interest rather than their country.

Addressing a mammoth rally at Abomosu, a farming community in Atiwa District of the Eastern Region last Sunday to kick start the campaign towards the Atiwa by-election, the former National Organizer for the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), said the party, being a social democratic one, is the only political party that could bring economic freedom to the teeming Ghanaians.

He argued that the NPP, as a capitalist oriented party, amassed wealth for themselves, leaving the national purse empty, with its associated economic suffering on Ghanaians. To him, in order to transform the socio-economic development of Ghanaians, there was the need for the electorate to retain the NDC, come the 2012 general elections.

Likening the NPP MPs to the infamous Uruguayan player, Surarez, who broke the heart of Ghanaians and Africans at the just ended 2010 World Cup in South Africa, by denying the Black Stars the semi-final stage, Hon. Ampofo said the MPs are economic saboteurs.

'The recent opposition to the STX Housing deal by the NPP MPs clearly depicts that they do not like good things that would transform the economy of the country', he mentioned.

'A government that is committed to improve the housing problems of the security services, then such a government is a listening one and must be supported to remain in office to provide the needs of the people', he continued.

On his part, the National Organiser for the party, Mr. Yaw Djan Boateng called on the people of the area to consider the candidate of the party as the next MP, since he has what it take to bring development to the people.

Supporting the introduction of multi-party democracy in the country, the NDC National Organizer said the introduction of multi-party democracy has paved the way for the electorate to make decisions for themselves, other than somebody imposing a candidate on them.

He therefore appealed to the people to vote for Hon. Emmanuel Atta-Twum as their next MP.

The aspiring NDC MP, who is also the current District Chief Executive (DCE) for Atiwa, thanked the party for electing him to lead the area in the upcoming election.
