Harper — A group of trained coaches and leaders under the umbrella Restoring Our Children's Hope (ROCH) has conducted a one day sensitization and awareness campaign on HIV/AIDS for over 334 young people in Gbamlesiewlor. Gbamlesiewlor is one of the biggest communities in Hoffman Station Township near Harper, Maryland County.
The ROCH District Coordinator for Harper, Mr. Michael Worgloh, said the HIV/AIDS campaign was meant to educate young people to know the facts about AIDS pandemic and how to prevent themselves and their attitude towards people that are infected with the virus.
Mr. Worgloh said ROCH is an organization comprising of more than 250 Volunteer Leaders and Leaders' Supervisors trained and sponsored by Right To Play, an INGO in Harper that is working to engage children and youth in Sports and Play for development.
The participants at the one day HIV/AIDS campaign were younger people with ages ranging between 12 to 25 years. According to Mr. Worgloh, people found within these ages in Harper are actively involved in sex. He said AIDS is real and that such programs are meant to enhance the ability of the youth to knowing their status and to educate them so that they may know the facts about the virus. He urged the participants to take serious the messages they learned and use it to help others.
The guest speaker at the HIV/AIDS campaign was an 18 year old girl Lucy Davies, she cautioned her colleagues to abstain and be faithful to a single partner and use condom to avoid HIV/AIDs and early pregnancy.
She termed the 'ABC' method as one of the best tools in the fight against the deadly virus. The guest speaker also admonished younger females across the country to wait for marriage before sex. She said this idea when accepted by girls and women throughout the country, they will live longer and work positively to building a healthy nation.
Lucy noted, "quit from sex and strive for education for a better tomorrow, sex will not help you any longer". This statement by Lucy shock the huge crowd including the nearby communities who turned out to witness the same as the singing of HIV/AIDS songs and the performance of drama echoes through the township of Hoffman Station more younger and older people stood closer watching the section.
The HIV/AIDS campaign was held under the team "PREVENT YOURSELF FROM HIV AND AIDS PANDEMIC".
