Former President of Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Mr. Olisa Agbakoba (SAN), has blamed multinational oil companies in Nigeria and the political class for conspiring to impoverish Nigerians.
Agbakoba spoke yesterday during a special session on NBA-Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) at the on-going Annual General Conference of the NBA holding in Kaduna.
Speaking on the theme 'Law, Development and Environmental Justice in Nigeria', Agbakoba accused the oil firms and politicians of selfish exploitation of the country's mineral resources and unbridled bribery and corruption.
He also accused various public and private institutions in Nigeria including the legislature, the judiciary and even the press of forging a grand conspiracy to ensure that a large chunk of the nation's resources ends up in private hands.
"The multinational oil companies in Nigeria have subverted the political authority and there is corruption everywhere to the detriment of our land. The political class has been thoroughly compromised," he said.
He said "the Niger Deltans should also hold the governors of the Niger Delta accountable for their exploitation."

Mr. Olisa Agbakoba (SAN) is right on the money....."He also accused various public and private institutions in Nigeria including the legislature, the judiciary and even the press of forging a grand conspiracy to ensure that a large chunk of the nation's resources ends up in private hands"
No one could say it better than this period. Local intelligence has confirmed how Judges intensionally postpone case nearing conclusion involving Shell and other oil companies and proceed on paid vacations by the oil companies with their families. Upon return they are transferred out and the case that was near conclusion is rescheduled to start all over again. Are these guys drones or darf? Only the bombs and Guns can save Nigeria hence Prof. Ben Nwabueze advocated for a bloody revolution it is a way to go.
