Nigeria: Election - Cleric Seeks Screening of Candidates By Muslims

Ibadan — Ahead of 2011 governorship election in Oyo State, an Islamic Cleric, Sheikh Muhydeen Ajani Bello, has advocated the screening of candidates by the Muslim community in the state to ensure that the next governor of the state would be someone to be proud of.

He said the call became imperative in view of the sterling performance being put up in Lagos State by the governor, Babatunde Raji Fashola, whom he said was a product of a similar screening in the state in 2006 before the election that produced him in 2007.
