Zimbabwe/Algeria: Cold Reception for Dembare

Algiers — Harare giants Dynamos flew into Algiers late yesterday to a cold reception by Setif Entente whom they clash against in a Champions League Group A tie in Setif tomorrow night.

Dynamos left Harare on Tuesday night on a journey that took them through Johannesburg and Cairo in Egypt. But Zimbabwe's remaining representatives on the continental stage, had to wait for three hours as there were no Entente representatives to welcome them and take them to Setif, which is 360km away from the capital.

With the distance between the airport and the match venue exceeding 200km, Entete were expected to provide Dynamos with air transport. Instead, the Algerians sent a team bus to ferry the Dynamos delegation from the airport to their base. The long bus trip added fatigue to the Dynamos players who also complained of hunger after their marathon flight.

Dynamos were still to complete their road trip by late last night. The Zimbabweans also had to cope with a number of roadblocks along the way and the changes in police escort meant more delays along the way.

Between the time they were stuck at the airport and the start of their long road trip, Dynamos did not get a chance to get a decent meal and the Harare giants suspect that their hosts had deliberately decided to give them a cold reception as a plot to frustrate them and play some mind games ahead of tomorrow's game. Dynamos had almost failed to fulfil the assignment until they were bailed out by Zifa.
