Nigeria: Sports Summit in Lagos Next Week

Members of the sports family will converge at Eko Hotel and Suites, Lagos next week to discuss the challenges of the sports industry and the way forward.

Briefing the media at the Media Centre National Stadium, Abuja, on Tuesday, the Director General of the National Sports Commission (NSC) Dr. Patrick Ekeji, who represented the Minister of Sports Ibrahim Isa Bio said the summit is coming at a time when there are seriously challenges facing sports in Nigeria.

Dr. Ekeji revealed that the summit was initially planned for May but had to be moved because, "we have to move the summit because of the challenges of the World Cup and the subsequent events after the World Cup. We had similar forum in January last year, but sports as we all know is very dynamic and at this very critical period it is important that we review the situation and talk about the way forward"

Uwa of Restral Consulting who is organizing and co-coordinating the summit revealed that the essence of the summit is to discussing the long term vision for sports development in the country, identifying visible, immediate deliverables which can be readily addressed by the Minister and developing an action plan and framework to drive the activities of the commission.

The summit will be held at Eko Hotel and Suites along Adeyemo Alakija Street, Victoria Island, Lagos.

Apart from staff of the Commission, speakers are expected from the media, academia, ex-athletes and current athletes, and other members of the sports family.

Speakers are also expected from the English FA and German FA.

Osa-Oboh revealed that speakers invited from other countries to share their experiences with Nigeria.
