Bujumbura — The Angolan vice president, Fernando da Piedade, Thursday in Bujumbura, witnessed the swearing-in of Burundian head of State, Pierre Nkurunziza, who took an oath of abiding and having the country's Constitution respected.
In Burundi since Wednesday, Fernando da Piedade Dias dos Santos, accompanied by the secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, George Chicoty, represented the Angolan head of State, José Eduardo dos Santos, at the ceremony also attended by hundreds of local and foreign guests.
During the ceremony, the just sworn-in president pledged to promote the union of the nation and work for the reconstruction of Burundi.
Re-elected in June for a second five-year term, Nkurunziza pledged to fight all attempts of foment of disobedience, terror and genocide.
