Zimbabwe: Tongai Moyo Pulls Out of Akon Concert

Harare — Tongai "Dhewa" Moyo has pulled out of the Akon Live in Concert following disagreements over pay with organisers Zimswag.

The Naye hitmaker was one of the local heavyweights billed to perform at the concert in the Sungura Revenge category. However, the Kwekwe-based artiste has since withdrawn after Zimswag failed to meet his demands. "The thing is we had wanted the organisers to pay deposit fee on signing the contract and the balance after the show. Zimswag later advised us that they were experiencing cashflow problems hence they could not fulfil the agreement. We are no longer performing at the show and we have since asked them not to include us on their advertisements," Dhewa said.

A Zimswag spokesperson confirmed that Dhewa would no longer perform at the September 4 show. "After reading his comments in the Press where he said he did not know anything about Akon we decided to drop him. "We felt it was not the right platform for him and we have replaced him with other musicians enthusiastic to share the stage with Akon. "I think he would be more comfortable playing alongside the Defaos, Sam Mangwanas and Pepe Kalles of this world," the spokesperson said.
