Minister of Federal Capital Territory, Senator Bala Mohammed has commended the officers and men of the FCT Fire Service for their prompt response which led to the abortion of what would have been a monumental fire disaster at the national headquarters of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
According to a statement signed by the Special Assistant Media to the Minister, Nosike Ogbuenyi, the Minister while on an on-the-spot inspection of the Wadata Plaza headquarters of the ruling party said that he had always directed the FCT Fire Service Unit to be very prompt in their response to fire and related emergency calls from individuals and organisations.
He described the incident as unfortunate and regrettable, and expressed thanks to God for making it possible for the fire outbreak to be put out before it could spread to other parts of the massive building.
Senator Bala Mohammed said "Because what has happened has happened, I commiserate with all the members and supporters of our great party, PDP. I particularly commiserate with our National Chairman, Dr. Okwesilieze, the National Working Committee and all our party leaders."
While expressing satisfaction with the prompt response by the FCT fire fighters, Senator Mohammed observed that he had always insisted on quick response of less than 15 minutes by the fire service to distress calls on any part of the capital city, adding that he was delighted that the fire men arrived the scene within five minutes.
Recall that there was a fire outbreak at the PDP National Secretariat, Wuse Zone 5, Abuja early Saturday morning, which was however contained by joint efforts of the FCT Fire Service and men of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).
