Nigeria: Six Die in Sokoto Floods

Sokoto — Six persons have died in Goronyo and Gada Local Government Areas of Sokoto State following heavy floods.The chairman, Sokoto State House Committee on Emergency Relief and Disaster Management, Alhaji Adamu Kalmalu, disclosed this in Sokoto yesterday.

According to him, about 15 of the 23 local government areas of the state were affected by flood this year. The legislator said the local government areas worst affected include Goronyo, Gada, Rabah and Isah. Alhaji Kalmalu said data made available to the committee by the state department of Ecological and Relief Matters indicated that this year's flood disaster was the worst in the state. The House Committee chairman said the department of Ecological and Relief Matters had already assessed losses incurred by the flood victims and that the state government's assistance would go to them through the department.
