Chairman of Abaji Area Council, Alhaji Yahaya Musa Muhammad Saturday said the council's management has done a lot in terms of development. He said the council is presently embarking on business ventures to boost its internal revenue drive.
According to him, the contract to clear 50 hectares of land has been awarded to establish an inland container depot, trailer park and mega petrol station, which will generate revenue for the council.
Alhaji Muhammad said his administration with the last three years has tried its best to see that youths in the council are actively engaged meaningfully in multifaceted sectors.
He said over 160 were employed as teachers, 30 as forest rangers and 150 as health attendants and health workers.
"We also secured admission for most of our youths into various tertiary institutions in the country and provided over 300 motorcycles to those that wanted to engage in commercial cyclists business," he added.
The council chairman also stated that a large number of youths that wanted to go into car wash business were empowered with facilities while others are sensitized after their education to go into skills training in either fish farming or any aspect of agriculture.
Apart from youths, the council chairman informed that over 150 women are engaged in direct labour by the council in order to empower them. He said they sweep streets, take care of children in schools, etc.
He said he has recruited teachers, constructed classrooms and health centres with doctors' chalets in most communities, adding that in the area of security and agriculture, the council is faring very well.
The chairman urged residents of the council to be law abiding and peaceful, advising that with the citing of a university in their community by the FCT Administration sit would also bring about development.
