While others were hustling and bustling going to beach parties, attending official Flag Day celebrations, the people of Kadoma Community were seeing backed by women, youth and older men on the main road of the community cleaning up sidewalks, closing pot holds and opening drainages among others.
Kadoma's main road is the only road leading to one of Bardnersville's major grave sites. Every Saturday and other days, fleet of cars are seen heading towards the grave site for burial. The condition of the road which has been dormant for a protracted period is getting worst every day most especially during this raining season. Owners of vehicles are seen walking daily because of the flood which has covered the entire road. Motorbike riders are also finding it difficult to also ply the route due to its condition. Women who have not been active in most of the activities in the community were also seen with their buckets, pans, wheel barrels, hoes, shovels and other implements working to give the road a face lift.
Speaking to our correspondent, Madam Magdalene K. Togba a permanent resident in the community said due to the slow pace of development initiative the women in the community were mobilized to pick up their tools to begin working on the road.
Quizzed as to whether the community has any NGO or other personalities helping to carry out the project through. Madam Togba said the project is just an inventiveness of the community and that during the dry season the community will solicit the help of who so ever may wish to help with the road initiative.
She used the occasion to call on the Government of Liberia to see reasons in helping to recondition the road since it is also used by vehicles heading to the grave site on daily basis.
For her part, Madam Roberts who has just moved in the community said that she has been sworrying over the road condition most especially during this period of the raining months where residents are finding it difficult to get home either by foot or by motor bikes due to the ramshackle condition of the road.
