Cairo — The Egyptian press highlighted the prize given by the Union of Afro-Asian Writers to the Angolan head of State, José Eduardo dos Santos.
The ceremony held in a Cairo restaurant was broadcasted by four Egyptian television channels (one in English and another in French) who made an interview to the Angolan ambassador to Egypt, Pedro Hendrik Vaal Neto, speaking about the political steps of the head of State and concerning the current state of bilateral relations between Angola and Egypt.
The Egyptian radio focused its news services on broadcasting the event that mobilized great number of Egyptian intellectuals, members of the civil society and the deputy minister of Religious Issues, Abdel Latif.
On the other hand, Al -Ahram, the main Egyptian daily paper with a circulation of 1.5 million copies, headlined that "Afro-Asian Writer's Union honours Angolan President".
According to the newspaper, the most read all over the Arabic region, the prizes "distinguished the important role played by President José Eduardo dos Santos in the freedom and development of Africa".
Many other audio, visual and press media highlighted the fact, such as Al-Akhbar, the second
most read newspaper all over Arabic countries, the paper 24 Horas, and so on.
