Kampala — The victorious U-20 national team (Hippos) has landed invitations to tour Yemen, Eritrea and Sudan after an impressive performance at the just concluded CECAFA U-20 Championships in Asmara.
The Hippos fascinated a host of the teams at the two week Championships as they convincingly retained the title with unbeaten record for a second successive time.
The team returned on Sunday and leader of delegation Mike Leti revealed that Yemen, Eritrea and Sudan want to play games with the Hippos in their preparation for various competitions they intend to take part in.
"They were so impressed with the level of our boys' games. Eritreans said that they want to learn more from us. We only need to confirm that we are ready to visit them," Leti told a gathering that welcomed back the team on arrival at Entebbe Air Port.
FUFA vice president technical Livingstone Kyambadde said they would take up the opportunity to prepare the team for their Olympic qualifiers starting next year.
The team captain Mike Mutyaba attributed their success to focus, discipline and solidarity among the players and the technical staff. "I have been on the national team for some time but this trip has been my best experience. I pray this pool of officials and players stay together as we progress," Mutyaba appealed amidst applause from players and the technical team.
