Nigeria/Madagascar: Nation v Madagascar NFF in Search of Match Venue

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has started the search for a venue for the African Cup of Nations qualifier between the Super Eagles of Nigeria and Madagascar.

NFF Chief Media Officer, Robinson Okosun who confirmed this in a chat with Trustsports, said that contacts are being made to secure either Kaduna or Calabar has been secured for the match.

The tie was earlier scheduled to hold at the Abuja National Stadium, but Trustsports gathered that the football governing body is frantically searching for a new venue as a result of the forthcoming Economic of West African States (ECOWAS) Games which starts from September 2 to September 13 at the same venue.

He informed that NFF President, Alhaji Aminu Maigari has directed that efforts should be made to ensure that either Kaduna or Calabar is available for the game, and arrangement to that effect be concluded on or before tomorrow. Similarly, officials also announced that Nations Cup qualifier has been moved by a day to Sunday.

This will be the first competitive match by Nigeria after a disappointing outing at the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, where the Eagles failed to reach the knockout stage of the tournament. Defender Sam Sodje, whose transfer to Greek club Xanthi collapsed over a complaint on his knee, has already arrived the country for the game.

Caretaker coach Austin Eguavoen has said he expects a full house by Monday night when the bulk of the country's Europe-based stars led by Chelsea midfielder Mikel Obi are expected to jet in to join up with the players from the domestic league.
