Kampala — Experts from the fuel industry will tomorrow gather in Kampala to brainstorm on the increasing adulteration of the commodity. The meeting is a result of the growing sale of substandard fuel, which is smuggled into the country or tampered with.
Experts from the Uganda Bureau of Standards say petroleum is the most affected where dealers mix it with kerosene, which is aimed at evading taxes. Usually petroleum attracts higher taxes compared to Kerosene.
Great danger
"This is posing a great danger to vehicles, the environment and the human respiratory system," Mr Moses Ssebunya, the UNBS principal public relations officer, said in an interview. The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development in coordination with UNBS last year, based on inter-linked mandates, agreed to cooperate under a memorandum of understanding to jointly implement the fuel marking and quality programme to curb the vice of adultering fuel in the country.
