Kampala — The Uganda transporters union on Tuesday stormed the Uganda Revenue Authority warehouse on Entebbe Road and intercepted two trucks with suspected excess axle load.
The trucks had already been cleared by the tax body and ready to continue to their different destinations, including Juba in Southern Sudan. The maximum load any truck can carry is 12 tonnes. The action by the Uganda National Transporters' Union follows complaints that some trucks with extra axle load were being cleared at weighbridges by roads agency, while others are impounded and drivers prosecuted.
William Busulwa, the chairman of the Uganda National Transporters Alliance, said the double standards should stop. According to the law, trucks are expected to have three axle load capacity.
